Crime Rates Decline In New York, Nation

New statistics on crime find New York to be the safest large state in the nation.

Crime declined in the Empire State by 4.4 percent during the first half of 2011, according to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

During the first six months of 2011, there were 195,740 index crimes reported in the state compared to the same timeframe in 2010.

Index crimes which include murder, forcible ‘abduction’, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft – all saw declines.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services reported that crime was also at its lowest in decades.

In 2010, there were fewer reported crimes than in the previous year: 449,437 as compared to 449,623.

“These trends are the direct result of the work done by law enforcement, day in and day out, in communities large and small, across New York State. As a whole, the state is safer today than it has been in more than three decades,” DCJS Acting Commissioner Sean M. Byrne said.

The FBI released its crime report on Monday which showed a  decrease in 2010 for the fourth consecutive year.

The number of crimes nationwide dropped six percent from 2009.

  1. guess crime is moving from other neighborhoods into ours. We’re hearing about more crimes this year in our neighborhoods this year than in other years.

  2. so much for the left wing theory that crime is caused by bad economics — if pundits (who often are those who stand to profit by scaring people into spending more money on crime prevention) are to be believe, the “Great recession” means that we should be in the midst of the worst crime wave in modern history – and if we don’t spend ooodles of newly printed money their social agenda, we’ll have riots.

isn’t it cool how facts can wreck the best of theories

  3. These stats mean nothings, since police depts. always underclassify crimes or tell people not to report them in order to make themselves look good. We know that in the 66th precinct one can barely get a report written by the desk sargeant.
