National Security Advisor: PA Statehood Won’t Achieve Intended Goal

National Security Advisor Yaakov Amidror predicts the PA’s (Palestinian Authority) unilateral declaration of statehood will place it in an untenable situation that will not have a positive regional impact. Amidror feels the upcoming meeting in New York City between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Barak Obama is of significant importance, a meeting that is of equal importance to both countries, unlike meetings with the US leader that are often interpreted as a gesture to Israel. Both the United States and Israel are busy measuring and predicting the fallout of the PA’s unilateral statehood bid.

The PA rhetoric remains unchanged, with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) over the weekend once again blaming Israel for the failures of peace-making efforts, blaming the current administration for the deadlock in negotiations. Abu Mazen told supporters that Israel’s continued construction throughout Yehuda and Shomron serve to expose the government’s true aspirations, which do not include peace with the PA.

The PA leader continues calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state in the pre-1967 borders, which would include all of Yehuda and Shomron, and from Ramallah’s point of view, it would include eastern Jerusalem as the capital to the new state.

A PA official last week made is crystal clear, that the new Palestinian state must be “judenrein” since the Palestinians have endured too many years of occupation, which will no longer be tolerated.

Abu Mazen also stated that President Barak Obama has indicated he supports a Palestinian state based on the pre-’67 borders, and from his part, he committed to being prepared for such an eventuality in September, and the time has come to actualize this reality.

  1. “Have endured too many years of occupation.” An occupation where they have more rights than they have in any Arab country. I would think they would vote for many more years of such occupation. Maybe they would indeed. Maybe it’s only their leaders who are opposed to the occupation. I wonder how many Arabs living in E. Y. With Kenesset representation want the occupation to cease.

  2. He is wrong. The point of this action is to make trouble for Israel and calm tension within the PLO. It will accomplish this easily. Mahmoud Abbas is in big trouble with his own people and they have been trying to get rid of him for some time now. This is part of his efforts to hang on to power.
