A vaad that was established in Elad, seeking to return the community to its previous realities, is pleased that to date 15 shopkeepers have agreed to shut their doors by 11pm, in compliance with a request from community rabbonim.
Following acts of vandalism in the community, rabbonim learned that such acts have occurred during the early morning hours, usually by the lost children who spend endless hours hanging around. The rabbonim hope that closing stores by 11pm will achieve the intended goal of returning to the days of tranquility that existed in the past.
Phase two of the plan consists of advertising the stores that fail to comply with the regulation of the city’s rabbonim in the hope that the tzibur at large will distance themselves from these shops.

Wouldn’t it be better to try to reach out to the “lost children” rather than take it out on the store owners?
I’m not familiar with the situation so this is simply a question. I just feel like this is a “band aid” solution and the “lost children” will find other things to do regardless of the stores being closed.
Outreach to the kids might have a better – more permanent – result. Just a thought.
I completely agree with ConcernedMember. If the stores are closed, the “lost children” will find other ways to fritter away their time. This move by the vaad may just increase vandalism against home owners and petty crime. They should consider opening “drop in” centers where these children can get something to eat, play basketball and get peer support. The present plan interferes with the parnassah of the store owners and plans to publish the names of the non-compliant ones will not solve the problem.

I am of an age that remember all stores close at 5:30 each one night a week and we did what had to be done. Plus we did not live in such debt
