Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger is visiting in Albania towards addressing the needs of the remaining 100s of Jews in that country. During his meetings with leaders, he will also ask that Albania vote against a Palestinian state when the matter is raised in the UN General Assembly.
The Rabbi added the Jewish People has to recognize that Albania has always defended its Jewish citizens, despite its Muslim majority, even during the Holocaust.
The government has recently recognized the Jewish community as an official entity, and a shul is open and operating. The rabbi feels that despite official stats that reports hundreds of Jews living there, he feels that number may be in the thousands.
