Wednesday Morning News Briefs From Eretz Yisrael


** The Ariston Hotel in Tiveria, one of the few in the country with a hechsher of the Eida Chareidit, has decided to end its contract with the Eida. In the future the hotel will be under the supervision of the Tiveria Rabbinate Mehadrin. The new owner plans renovations as well. The Eida confirmed the decision was that of the hotel and the kashrus was not revoked. 

** US President Obama has dispatched Mideast envoys Dennis Ross and David Hale back to the Mideast in a last-ditch effort to jumpstart the peace process ahead of the PA presenting a request for statehood to the UN.

** Deputy Foreign Minister Ayalon stated if the PA takes unilateral steps, all agreements signed with Israel are null and void.

** A court revoked the drivers license of an 18-y/o for 2.5 years and fined him NIS 1000 after he was apprehended driving 173 KPH (104 MPH) in a 90 KPH (55 MPH) zone.

18:52: An Israeli bus was targeted in a rock-throwing attack near el-Aroub, SW of Beit Lechem. No injuries were reported.

** An old mortar shell was found in a construction site in the Brechfeld neighborhood of Modi’in Illit on Tuesday night.

19:47: A bag containing grenades, firecrackers, wires and a clock, which were unconnected to one another, was found at a bus stop on Yehuda HaNasi Street in the Brechfeld area of Modi’in Illit. A woman phoned police about a suspicious bag. Bomb demolition technicians were summoned to deal with the bag.

21:13: A portion of Tel Aviv’s Sdei Dov Airport was evacuated due to a suspicious package which landed out being a piece of forgotten luggage.

21:51: Egyptian border force fired at infiltrators along border with Israel. One woman was seriously wounded and transported by an IDF chopper to the trauma unit of Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva.
