YWN has learned that New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has pumped over $40,000 through the Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee in support of Phil Goldfeder’s campaign for New York State Assembly. The funding was disclosed in an obscure campaign filing found on-line here.
One political strategist who is not affiliated with either Assembly campaign said, “Speaker Silver appears worried about Democrat Phil Goldfeder losing the election to Republican Jane Deacy. I think the combination of Weprin’s failing campaign, questions about Goldfeder’s position on issues of importance to the Jewish community and and the general anti-Democratic wave is causing serious concern to the Speaker. Obviously, this would be an important race for the Speaker because Goldfeder would be an Assemblyman that Speaker Silver could rely on.”

Isn’t that what he’s supposed to do. If the Democrats are in danger of losing the middle class/working class religious ethnic votes (us, and a lot more), there is a real “danger” (from Silver’s perspective) of the Democrats running into an political disaster next year. If a safe seat in Brooklyn and Queens can go Republican, we are on the verge of a shift of the nature as what occurs once in a lifetime (the last time was 80+ years ago). It Silver’s job to prevent that shift from happening.
