MK Yisrael Eichler on Sunday turned to Minister Matan Vilnai, who is responsible for the homefront, calling for fortification of mosdos Torah in Ashdod in light of the renewed rocket attacks into the southern areas of the country.
Eichler sent an urgent letter to the minister, pointing out that the small children learning in caravan homes is simply unacceptable since today; Ashdod has become a frontline community. The caravan classrooms do not offer even the most minimum protection, explained the chareidi Member of Knesset, seeking immediate action as the mosdos are scheduled to open for the 5772 school year in the coming days.
“Davka now, while the sirens are silent and rockets halted is the time to act, not while the rockets are pounding the area” stated Eichler in his letter.
Eichler reminded the minister that literally thousands of chareidi students are in temporary structures despite the fact they are entitled to regular classrooms in accordance to law, “by right and not as a chessed”, but regardless of the law, it appears the Ministry of Education lacks the funds. Eichler adds that this alarming reality of inadequate classrooms is not unique to Ashdod, but it reflects the situation in the chareidi community nationwide.
Ashdod City Hall has turned to chareidi MKs along with Minister Vilnai, requesting immediately action, the placement portable concrete shelters at schools in which students are in buildings incapable of withstanding rocket attacks.
