Magen David Adom is reportedly desperate for blood donations, and is now taking a personal approach by calling people at home or sending SMS (text messages) to cellphones and asking them to donate. These personal messages are meant to raise awareness and get people to go to their nearest MDA station to give blood.
MDA blood services head Prof. Eilat Shinar told the Jerusalem Post, that press releases to the media about the blood shortage have not brought in enough donors so far, so MDA decided to take a personal approach. The hospitals need at least 1,200 donations of blood per day. During the first day of the phone campaign this week, 1,422 blood units were given.
The donations can be made in Yerushalayim, Tel Aviv, Chaifa and the central blood bank at Tel Hashomer until Thursday, from 8:00AM – 8:00PM.
There have also been blood drives set up at various hotels in Yerushalayim – for the large crowds who are arriving for Succos.

This is not the first time they sent out SMS’s. I actually didn’t know about the shortage and I will try to donate today. Does anyone know where I can go to donate ?
Are you sure there’s a shortage? Haven’t seen anything about it but if ther is I would want to know.
Eretz Yisroel will be filling up with Torahdik tourists coming for the yom tovim. US Jewish papers should advertise this shortage, and the MDA clinics will fill with yiddim looking to help by donating, (especially after a lavish breakfast at one of the Jerusalem hotels). ‘By blood we live, by blood we die’
