A number of days ago, the new moked/security service for Har HaZeisim began operating under the auspices of the Jerusalem Development Authority, receiving a budget of NIS 20 million. The moked headquarters has direct communications abilities with patrol vehicles in the area, and police may be contacted as well in the event of need towards increasing safety for mispallalim visiting kevarim in the area.
Prominent Jerusalem askan R’ Chaim Miller praised the move, explaining 60 cameras have been installed in the area, which are monitored in the moked. Ultimately, there will be a total of 140 cameras, providing real time feeds from all areas of Har HaZeisim.
Miller hopes that eventually, kevarim can be visited without incident and the monitoring of the area will bring an end to the constant acts of vandalism, which have become increasingly commonplace over recent years.
