Due to the deteriorating security situation in southern Israel, military officials have canceled today’s planned shloshim for Baba Elazar ZATZAL, which was expected to attract thousands.
Acting upon a request from security officials, Rabbi Pinchas Abuchatzera, a son of the late Mekubal, gave the order to cancel the event, opting to hold a modest smaller ceremony for a limited number of people. When the rocket fire resumed last week, the IDF’s Homefront Command placed a maximum number of 500 people at any gathering, realizing the potential for disaster chas v’sholom as a result of incoming rockets.
While many could be injured with a ceiling of 500 people, the IDF is trying to find an acceptable situation that limits the risk while permitting residents to continue conducting their lives.
It appears the modified shloshim event will be held in the Abuchatzera home with only invited persons attending. Organizers of the earlier event are calling on the tzibur not to travel to the south and to adhere to the warnings and instructions of military commanders.
Rockets were launched into the Eshkol Region of southern Israel on Wednesday morning. Baruch Hashem, no one was injured. Early Wednesday afternoon, a Kassam rocket fired at Israel landed in Egyptian-controlled Rafiach, striking a home. A woman was injured according to Egyptian media reports.
