The Air Force said Wednesday it is discharging a hero of the so-called birther movement who refused to report to duty in Germany for a few days earlier this month because he doubts President Barack Obama’s citizenship.
Staff Sgt. Daryn Moran expects to be discharged within the next week. Although the 41-year-old Nebraska man refused to report to duty and had called for Obama’s arrest in statements on websites, several other things contributed to his discharge, including his opposition to Obama’s decision to allow gays to serve openly in the military.
Moran, who has served nine years in the Air Force, drew the attention of the birther movement when he shared his views on Obama’s citizenship on websites of groups that believe Obama was not born in the U.S. and therefore is not eligible to serve as president or commander in chief.
It’s not clear whether Moran would have been prosecuted for refusing to report for duty because it appears his discharge was approved by his commander about a week beforehand.
Air Force spokesman Michael Kucharek said Wednesday that his commander approved the discharge on Aug. 4. Moran had refused to report for duty starting last Thursday.
Moran said he is receiving an honorable discharge, but the Air Force would only confirm that he is being discharged.
Moran said he didn’t consider his orders valid because he doesn’t consider Obama’s presidency valid. Even as he was waiting for the Air Force to decide what to do with him, Moran was calling for Obama’s arrest.
“I doubt America’s future if we choose to abandon the Constitution at the moment of this battle with B. Obama’s desire for absolute authority and unwillingness to cooperate,” Moran said Wednesday in an email from Germany to The Associated Press.

Traditionally disobeying an order during wartime led to you being shot, but the US has become very wimpy as of late. Arguably, he is guilty of not only mutiny, but also treason.
If you don’t want to obey the elected leadership of a country, you shouldn’t join the military.
A military man concerned about the validity of orders being given from the top by someone who has not satisfied the requirements of providing credible documentation, makes this Sgt. a credit to the armed forces. But everything is backwards and upside down these days…….
What about those who refused to support the war in Iraq since President Gore, who they decided had won in 2000, hadn’t ordered them to go?
What about those who believed that since Congress hadn’t declared war, they weren’t required to go to Vietnam.
What about those who refused to fight Germany since the founding fathers didn’t believe in foreign wars.
Whatg about soldiers who believe that America was founded by white Christians and they don’t have to obey orders from anyone else (fortunately, they are weeded out early).
One should remember that all traitors are highly principled. So are all terrorists. They are also brave.
They are fit to be martyrs to whatever they believe in.
They are unfit to serve in our army.
This guy should face a court martial for refusing to obey an order.
His discharge should be anything but honorable.
$10 bucks and a hot kuggle says he’s going to get an Administrative Discharge…not dishonorable, but not honorable either…and a red flag to any employer who knows anything about military discharges.
