New York – The F.B.I. has assigned a new counterterrorism chief to its New York field office.
John Giacalone, who spent the 1990s investigating the mob, started on Monday as the special agent in charge of the counterterrorism division in New York, the bureau announced.
The new assignment makes him the top supervisor of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, which draws more than 300 investigators and other officials from the F.B.I., the New York Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies.
Mr. Giacalone, 46, was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Long Island.
