wo years ago, 13-year-old Nomi Kamun of Jerusalem came home from school with a stiff neck. Her parents took her from doctor to doctor, and it was concluded that all she needed was “a massage.”
Little did they know, their lives were about to change forever.
It was discovered that one of the vertebrae in Nomi’s neck had slipped. She was sent in immediately for surgery. While the young girl was on the operating table, every parent’s worst nightmare became a reality: The surgeons made a mistake. They accidentally struck her spinal cord. When Nomi woke up, she was no longer able to walk.
Her family immediately went through the complicated process of contacting revered medical askan Rabbi Firer of Ezra L’Maarpeh. Rabbi Firer urged them to travel to America at once, to Montefiore Hospital. There, the Rabbi said, Nomi could receive the treatments & surgery necessary for her to walk again.
The Kamun family is highly distraught, as they cannot afford to follow Rabbi Firer’s advice. Their 13-year-old daughter suffers from tremendous pain daily, and is wheelchair-bound.
There is now a fundraising campaign to help the Kamuns reach America.
“Please, we can do this together, WE CAN HELP NOMI WALK AGAIN, ” the campaign text reads. Those moved by the innocent face of this suffering child hope and pray this is true.
