The Knesset on Tuesday passed a bill into law that will permit expanding the scope of operation of the National Security Council, which from here on in will be called the National Security Headquarters (NSH).
The bill was presented by MK (Kadima) Tzachi Hanegbi, who chairs the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee and MK Amira Dotan.
The move is another lesson learned following the Second Lebanon War, intending to provide head of the NSH more information from various agencies, permitting him to present a more comprehensive picture to the prime minister.
All information pertaining to security and defense given to the prime minister will also be given to the new expanded entity, and at least once a year, the NSH will publish a report on the state of national security. Ilan Mizrachi is the current director of the agency.
