Akko Blast May Not Have Been Accidental

ywnisrael.israelAt this early stage of the investigation police are not ruling anything out, including the possibility that the explosion that killed four people and left others injured may have been caused intentionally. Another possibility is the blast was sparked by cellular telephone antennas on a rooftop.

Police are interviewing survivors and neighbors and it appears there was a difference of opinion raging between the owner and some of the residents over the placement of an unspecified number of cell phone antennas on the building rooftop.

Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) interviewed Rom Dishon, who is an electronics engineer specializing in cellular phones and antennas, and he explained that it appears that gas exploded, but it is entirely possible that a sufficient quantity of antennas could have sparked the blast. Dishon explained that there is not enough magnetic or electrical energy from antennas on a building rooftop to result in that strong an explosion but there is enough to spark a blast, he explained that if there was a gas leak, intentional or otherwise, antennas could have caused the blast. He added that home owners can earn $2000 a month from each cellular provider that they permit to station antennas on a rooftop so it is quite a profitable enterprise.

Police explain it is simply too early into the investigation to draw any conclusions but the possibility of an intentional blast caused by an angry neighbor is not being ruled out.
