MK Moses: The Admorim are Applying Pressure on State Leaders

belzSpeaking with Kikar Shabbos, Yahadut Hatorah MK Rabbi Menachem Eliezer Moses explains that he feels the planned shlichus of the admorim to the USA is already having an impact on state officials. Moses is confident they are already feeling the pressure since they understand the significance of the act.

Moses earlier in the week met with MK (Labor) Yitzchak Herzog, explaining he met with the opposition leader in his capacity as leader of Yahadut Hatorah in Knesset. “We are disappointment with Netanyahu’s performance and it appears he has forgotten we were once longtime partners” Moses adds.

Moses feels the future will bring increased cooperation between his party and Labor for they agree on core issues. Moses is aware that Herzog sees himself as a viable candidate to become the next prime minister and therefore, the opposition leader is genuinely interested in striking a deal with the chareidim.

When asked how Yahadut Hatorah can partner with the left-wing party, Moses explained there is much in common and it could work quite nicely. When asked about Labor’s support of talks with the PA (Palestinian Authority), the party’s left-wing political allegiance, Moses responded “we will cross that bridge when we come to it,” clearly signaling that for him this is not a core issue.

What will make a difference is Bayit Yehudi’s reaction as diplomatic talks between Israel and the PA move forward.

Regarding the upcoming shlichus of the admorim to the United States, Moses states “It’s no wonder they are traveling abroad to influence others since sadly, at home no one is willing to listen to what we have to say. Perhaps after the impact of this historic trip is felt, the influence from there will be felt here.”

  1. I think he is delusional. Why would the politicians care if the Admorim go to the USA? Who’s mind are they going to change?

What the Admorim need to do is fire the inept politicians who got us all into this mess with their chest beating hollow threats and name calling.

The inept politicians did this to us by picking a fight with the Daati Leumi.

It is their failure and they should pay the price.

  2. The threat to go back to support the (nominal) Socialists is serious.

In terms of economics, the hareidim are left wingers. Indeed, they are probably to the left of the Israeli labor party. In both America and Israel, hareidim favor liberal welfare benefits without regard to paying for them. Indeed, internally, we try to provide benefits (charity, hinuch, etc.) far beyond our means.

It’s very hard to be a hawk on foreign affairs if you don’t want to fight. Remember it was the party of the settlers, Bayit Yehudi, that is responsible for the attack against the hareidim. In any event, if the pro-medinah hareidim can’t stop conscription, leadership will pass to the anti-zionists (Eidah hareidis, Satmar, etc.), so even if a hareidi leader is sympathetic to the settlement enterprise, it’s hardly a priority.

And since many on the left also oppose conscription, it may be easier to get Herzog to end conscription, allow for religious and conscientious objection, or at least agree on no penalties for yeshiva students who don’t join the army.

  3. What effect do people seriously think eight individuals flying as a group in First Class to New York will have on any of the ministers of the Israeli government except to make them jealous because they at best get treated to Business class?

  4. Hey mr. akuperma what ever kind of name that is most frum jews in the usa besides chassidm vote republican so get ur facts straight!

  5. The honorable MK should remember that the Dor shel Shmad and the descent into churban began with an appeal to Rome to settle our differeces.
