Neither of the baby boys parents were able to attend the Levaya, held on Har Hazesim on Wednesday night.

The tragic turn of events occurred shortly after the new mother saw her baby for the first time.

Initially said to be in a “stable” condition, the hospital said Monday the baby’s condition worsened and on Tuesday had rapidly deteriorated. He was Niftar on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the condition of his mother B”H continues to improve.

As reported, she was reunited with her husband, Amichai, in the hospital on Tuesday. He too was wounded in the attack, albeit with far less serious injuries, and they initially in different hospital. Amichai is in light condition following surgery for gunshot injuries to a leg and they are remain in Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, recuperating.

Some 300 hundred people crowded around the fresh gravesite, using umbrellas to shield the baby’s tiny body, wrapped in a Tallis and smaller than a shoe box, from the steadily falling rain.

The baby’s grandfathers both spoke, moving all in attendance and thousands around the world to tears.

Rabbi Raphael Ish-Ran, a grandfather of the baby, announced his name.

“It is written in Halacha that a name must be given to the baby, so your parents have given a name, which is of great significance and symbolizes everything – Amiad Yisrael, our people is here forever. The people of Israel is here forever.”

“Our message is clear – we will not break, we cry and it hurts us, but we are strong,” said Rabbi Ish-Ran.
