Attorney Uri Yisrael Paz told Kol Berama Radio on Monday morning 10 Nissan that the decision to grant a state permit for Soccer on Shabbos was given “hastily” by Minister Chaim Katz, and his actions were improper and possibly illegal.
Paz explained the Likud minister is aware that his days as a cabinet minister are numbered, as a criminal indictment awaits him. He was referring to the police insider trading case being built against Katz, as reported by YWN-ISRAEL.
Paz pointed out that among other things, prior to issuing the permit to legalize Soccer on Shabbos, Katz was compelled to meet and reach agreement with Histadrut Labor Federation officials, since the soccer players were being compelled to work on the national day of rest. In addition, elected officials, including the chareidi parties, have not had their last word in the matter.
When asked if he plans a legal battle, Paz indicated the soccer permit from his perspective is illegal and he does not believe it will maintain its integrity when challenged. He pointed out that Katz amazingly gave a permit that is given to the nation’s health ministry, to permit it to operate on Shabbos, for playing soccer, which is simply unacceptable.
