Amid fears in Israel, the Foreign Ministry has sent warnings to a number of nations to warn Tehran, Syrian leader el-Assad and Hizbullah regarding efforts to bring chemical weapons across the border into Israel.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, 29 Shevat, contacted 15 nations, sending messages via their diplomatic representatives, using harsh terms to warn Tehran, Syria and Hizbullah regarding efforts to move chemical weapons over the border. This appears to have been prompted by last weekend’s incident in which an Iranian-built drone was detected after crossing into Israel. it was shot down by the air force. That was followed by the Syrians downing an air force F-16i. Israel has warned that if efforts to move chemical weapons are detected, the response will be extremely harsh.
In addition, the ambassadors were asked to convey a message to the senior echelon that Iran’s entrenchment in Syria could increase the Iranian desire to carry out additional attacks on Israel, which would lead to an escalation in the entire region. “We must convey the message that Israel will not allow this and Israel will defend itself, its citizens and its sovereignty.”
The message further stated that they had been asked to say that “the Iranian attempt to create a chokehold on Israel through Hizbullah in Syria and Lebanon should be stopped.”
“The countries of the world must do their utmost to disengage Iran from the Syrian arena and bring its military forces out of the country.”
