MK (Machane Tzioni) Miki Rosenthal proposes a Shabbos bill that is somewhat different from the chareidi version. He feels an employer must provide 300% compensation for every worker who is forced to work on Shabbos and will not receive another day of rest at the end of the week. “I am determined to limit the number of people working on Shabbos from a social perspective” announced Rosenthal.
He points out that according to the law, ever worker is entitled to a day of rest.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, 92,000 people currently work seven days a week without a vacation, and while some are okay with working, others are being compelled against their will. “This is modern slavery. According to my proposal, such workers will receive compensation equal to 300 percent of their salary. The law will reduce the amount of work on the Shabbos so for some employers, it will no longer be cost effective to compel their workers and take advantage of them,” explains Rosenthal.
