On Tuesday 6 Tishrei, Jerusalem Councilman (Shas) Yitzchak Cohen visited with HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita to receive a bracha and to seek his advice.
Cohen was introduced to Rav Kanievsky as one who was close to his late father-in-law Maran HaRav Elyashiv ZT”L. Cohen explained he was asked by the Chief Rabbi of Mexico HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Tawil how the Jewish community should act following the earthquake that struck last week, an earthquake that claimed 331 lives including his Mechutan, Rabbi Chaim Ashkenazi Z”L.
Cohen explained the fears of the local community, asking what they should accept on themselves at the kenos chizuk that Rav Tawil will be hosting.
Kikar Shabbos News quotes Rabbi Kanievsky responding, “They should come to Eretz Yisrael and during the interim, to be mispallel there should not be additional earthquakes”.
Near the end of their meeting, as Cohen asked for a personal bracha, Rav Chaim detected his watch on his left hand, asking him with a smile “Are you a woman?” Cohen quickly removed the watch [which Rav Kanievsky views as Jewelry and should not be worn] and responded with a smile, “There we go. No more watch” and was then given a bracha for a Shana Tova.
