With MK Bazel Ghattas under house arrest as an investigation against him for smuggling phones to terrorists in Ketziot Prison continues, one has to wonder why there is a noticeable increase in the number of visits made to terrorists imprisoned in Israel by Arab MKs.
According to a Shin Bet report, the frequency of requests for visits with convicted terrorists continues to increase, citing in 2016 no less than thirteen requests were made to see convicted Fatah Tanzim faction leader Marwan Barghouti, who is serving multiple life sentences for his terror-related actions. Fourteen requests were made to visit with the head of the Israel Islamic Movement Northern Branch, which has been declared illegal, Sheikh Raid Salah.
Arab MKs visited other terrorists as well including Mahmoud Jabarin who murdered three IDF soldiers in 1992.
The sharp increase in the visits has the Shin Bet concerned, adding these visits are not held in the regular visitation area but they are given private rooms. Even the guards are not permitted in the rooms during visits.
