Weeks before being sworn into office, US President-elect Donald Trump is being threatened by the PA (Palestinian Authority) as senior PLO official Dr. Saeb Erekat announced if Trump moves the US Embassy to Jerusalem as promised, the PA will cancel its recognition of Israel.
Erekat made his comments while addressing a Washington DC conference, explaining if Trump does carry out his election promise to move the embassy it would be tantamount to “US acceptance of Israel’s illegal occupation of eastern Jerusalem”.
According to the Maan news agency report, Erekat will also resign his post as chief negotiator is such a move takes place, explaining he does not want PA residents to think there is a possibility of peace if the embassy is moved. Erekat boldly added if Trump makes good on his promise, it will also lead to US embassies in Arab countries being forced to close their doors for the Arab host nations would no longer permit the US diplomatic facilities to remain open in response to the American move.
