Shas party leader Aryeh Deri is among those hoping Rabbi Eyal Karim does not decide to respond to the High Court of Justice in an effort to win the court’s support for his appointment as next IDF Chief Rabbi. The court accepted a petition from members of the extreme left-wing Meretz opposition party challaning a paper the rav wrote over a decade ago, R”L accusing him of permitting abuse of women during wartime due to the total lack of understanding of the inyan of ‘Eishes Yifas Toar’.
Deri is critical of the High Court and Justice Salim Jubran, who was brazen enough to say “I know the Torat Yisrael and it contains good things and I have not found such a thing…sad that the rabbi could think of such things”.
Jubran, a non-Jew, had the audacity to believe his knowledge and understanding of Toras Yisrael exceeds that of Rabbi Karim. Deri shared his disdain for the judge’s remarks with Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) during an interview. “Oi Va Voi” stated Deri if Rabbi Karim decides to respond to the court.
