A security alert occurred during an official visit to Germany by Jerusalem Chief Sephardi Rav Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar Shlita. Rav Amar is in Germany and is visiting with Jewish community leaders.
On Erev Shabbos, Rav Amar arrived in the city of Bremen to attend the unveiling of a monument to Jews killed during WWII. The event was attended by the head of the local Senate as well as Rabbi Netanel Teitlebaum.
Due to security warnings, Rabbi Amar was assigned a security detail from local police from the time he landed. He was scheduled to visit a Syrian refugee camp but that was canceled at the last moment due to security concerns.
On motzei Shabbos the rabbi arrived in Hamburg and davened at the kever of Rav Yonatan Eybeschutz.
Professor Simcha Goldin, the father of IDF soldier Lt. Hadar Goldin HY”D took part in a meeting with Syrian refugees who were supposed to meet with Rav Amar. During the program Rav Amar called Dr. Goldin and recited a special tefilla with him for the return of his son’s remains.
