With Rosh Hashanah approaching, there seems to be an alarming increase in Palestinian terror attacks, which began this past Erev Shabbos, 13 Elul. Just a few short weeks ago, state officials announced the sharp reduction in attacks and how police and other agencies have managed to bring the wave of terror under control.
The attacks began last year with the Tishrei Yomim Tovim R”L, with the murders of Rabbi and Mrs. Na’ama Henkin HY”D.
As the situation appears to be worsening, Prime Minister held a meeting with security and intelligence community heads to assess the situation ahead of the Tishrei Yomim Tovim.
The meeting took place on Sunday 15 Elul, during which PM Netanyahu instructed that police forces be increased, especially in the Old City of Yerushalayim and around Har Habayis, and directed that determined action be taken against any attempt to violate order there.
Prime Minister Netanyahu ordered that the Knesset Speaker be requested to act to continue to prevent MKs and ministers from going up to Har Habayis during this sensitive period.
The Prime Minister directed that activity be increased against Palestinian incitement on social networks, including expanded action vis-à-vis Facebook and other platforms, with the goal of removing inflammatory content. He also instructed that a response team be established to refute disinformation about Israeli policy on Har Habayis.
Mr. Netanyahu was also updated on IDF operations and the reinforcement of units along the roads and in communities in Yehuda and Shomron.
Also participating in the meeting were Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, Israel Policy Deputy Inspector General Zohar Dvir, Jerusalem District Police Commander Yoram Halevy, the deputy Director of the Shin Bet, an IDF representative and personnel from the National Security Council.
