Free Shabbos Public Bus Service To Begin In Herzliya

1Efforts to create a new religious status quo reality regarding public buses on Shabbos continue in cities around Israel R”L, and while progress may be minimal, buses are beginning to roll in some areas. In two weeks, Herzliya plans to begin operating free public bus service on Shabbos. According to Mayor Ron Padlon, the buses will run on major streets only and permit residents to reach the beach, parks, the medical center and other entertainment venues in the western area of the city. City Hall is picking up the tab for the time being.

He emphasizes the bus will not enter neighborhood but remain on the main route and will not change the Shabbos atmosphere. The buses will run at half hour intervals and on each hour, there will be a minibus serving the disabled community. Similar service is offered on Shabbos in Ramat Gan, Givatayim and areas of Tel Aviv.

  1. Aryeh (#1) – You are correct. But you have to understand their mindset. As one chiloni once told me: “God doesn’t care about the Mitzvos.” Many of them, רחמנא לצלן, don’t even believe that the Torah is מן השמים. But perversely, many still believe Hashem will protect them.
