The Chief Rabbis of Israel, Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita and Rabbi Dovid Lau Shlita released a letter dated 19 Elul in which they speak out against the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem (ICEJ) annual Tabernacle event, which coincides with Sukkos. The event brings thousands of Christians to Israel, taking part in a week-long program culminating with the Tabernacle Parade through areas of Yerushalayim.
The Chief Rabbis warn the ICEJ and the event are missionary in nature. The rabbonim call on the tzibur not to take part in any portion of the program, despite the fact organizers are friendly towards Israel since the event poses a “spiritual threat”.
