It was quite the surprise for the head of Yad Sarah’s hospital bed unit. An expensive hospital bed that was in use was donated to the tzedaka organization. The head of the unit inspected the bed to determine its suitability as is done prior to lending out any new piece of equipment.
As the mattress was being inspected by Mr. Yisrael Erand, who heads the unit, he detected a zipper. When it was opened thousands of dollars and gold jewelry were found inside. It appears the owner used it to hide valuables.
After documenting all the cash and valuables, Erand began the work of fulfilling hashovas aveida, contacting the donor and arranging to return everything to the family.
Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky, the founder of the nationwide organization said “This is our way, the way of Yad Sarah, as one mitzvah results in another, chessed results in more chessed”.
The donor and his wife arrived within a few hours to receive the valuables. He explained his late father always gave and after his petira they wanted to continue the legacy and donated the bed. “Yad Sarah assisted us a great deal in the past and we wanted to give something back. I called and within days they came to take the bed. At the end of the day the donation came back to us”.
The donor continued “My father was a known silver/goldsmith in Tel Aviv and the jewelry has great sentimental value. We are truly moved. Yad Sarah are tzaddikim as acts such as this are not regular occurrences today”.
