Tens of residents on Yona Street in Bnei Brak were instructed to evacuate their homes during the early evening hours of Wednesday 18 Elul due to a serious gas leak in the area. The leak was in a nearby public building.
City Manager Avraham Tannenbaum reported receiving many calls from concerned residents reporting a strong odor in the area. The fire department and other agencies responded. They learned that workers involved in renovations in the public building struck a gas line. The fire department ordered the evacuation of tenants in the immediate area of the leak, which was quite significant.
