IDF soldiers during the night operated in Jenin in an effort to arrest suspected terrorists. According to the IDF Spokesman, the primary targeted by arch terrorist Bassam Saadi, a senior commander in the Islamic Jihad in Yehuda and Shomron who was released from an Israeli prison in 2011.
One member of the Yomam counter-terrorism unit was moderately wounded by mistaken Israeli fire. At least five terrorists were wounded in the operation. Initial report stated the force was fired upon but the spokesman’s office denies the accuracy of that report.
The home of the suspect was destroyed. There were reports of widespread rioting in Jenin during the IDF operation, including firebomb and rock attacks against Israeli forces.
The wounded soldier was flown to the trauma unit of Rambam Medical Center in Haifa where he was reported in moderate/stable condition. He was taken to surgery shortly following his arrival. The wounded terrorists were taken to a Jenin hospital.
In another terror-related event, sirens sounded early Tuesday morning 17 Elul in the Eshkol Regional Council. There are no reports of fatalities, injuries or property damage as a result of the attack. It appears the rocket misfired B”H.
