Police say a man walked into a federal building in Manhattan and opened fire, wounding a security guard, before turning the gun on himself.
The New York Police Department say it happened early Friday evening at the building on Varick Street in Manhattan that houses an immigration court, passport application center and the department of labor.
Police say the information was preliminary and the investigation. The reason for the shooting was unclear.
The wounded officer was taken to a hospital. His condition was unclear. The shooter was dead at the scene.
Police say the man had walked through a side entrance of the building, pulled out a firearm and shot the private security officer.
Police say the guard had a weapon but it doesn’t appear he was able to fire.
