Sderot police have been working to launch a special operation to combat break-ins and property thieves. On Monday, 2 Elul, during an operation to apprehend burglars, detectives arrested a resident of the PA (Palestinian Authority) village of Dura, who was inside Green Line Israel illegally. He was employed in the PA as a policeman.
Detectives parked a Citroen vehicle and left a case inside with a laptop and a cellphone. They maintained a lookout nearby. A bit after 13:00 on N’vei Eshkol Street in Sderot, the detectives noticed a suspicious vehicle stopping alongside. The door was opened and the bag was stolen from the bait car. Police moved in and made the arrest. They also found an electric saw in his possession that they believe was also stolen. After identifying him they were not surprised to learn he was an illegal PA resident. They were more surprised to learn he is a former PA cop who fled to Israel. An indictment was filed against him in the Ashdod Magistrate Court.
