Ten years following the expulsion, families of the northern Shomron community of Sanur returned to the site. The expellees were visibly emotional as they saw the ruins that was once their community, expelled by the Ariel Sharon administration in the so-called Disengagement Plan.
The Shomron Regional Council and Chomesh First organization defied the odds to arrange the event, succeeding in bringing hundreds of people to the site. A plaque was presented to Rabbi Elishema Cohen, Rosh Yeshivat Chomesh who continues the battle to maintain a Jewish presence in nearby Chomesh.
Shomron Council head Yossi Dagan, among the expellees from Sanur addressed the crowd. He vowed to return one day and rebuild the community.
Science Minister Danny Danon, who took part in the event, echoed the call to return as did Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, who added “B’ezras Hashem we will return to here and rebuild and this will be more than a simcha for each and every family but for Am Yisrael. This will be an opportunity to correct the terrible error of the past and stop the trend of land withdrawals”.
Also addressing the event were MK (Bayit Yehudi) Yinon Magal and Deputy Minister (Likud) Ayoub Kara.
