  1. And what is the point of reporting this? If this was / is the decision of the hanhalas ha’Yeshivah, it is (one) daas Torah, and one we do and should respect. If it was not / is not from them, the act is meaningless.

  2. #1: The point is to show that those who truly understand Daas Torah understand the concept of hakoras hatov.

The act is far from meaningless. It has deep meaning. Unfortunately, it flies over the heads of most people who have agendas they feel they must protect.

  3. The Ponovezher Rov ZT”L made the decision to fly the flag on Yom Ha’atzmaut. They are just continuing his policy.

  4. It is reassuring to know that the very basic element of gratitude prevails over politics. Even if there are good reasons to be against the medina, being able to still show gratitude while disagreeing shows both gadlus and confidence. That is really what gedolim are made of

  5. Last I heard, the zionists had backed down on threats to draft yeshiva students and start closing down non-zionist yeshivos, to the crisis passed.

Giving respect to a king is very traditional, even if you don’t like him. Being disrespectful means you indicating you are considering becoming a Mored be-malchus, and if the zionists are backing down there is no reason to pick a fight.

  6. and at least YW didn’t post the same old picture as they do every year. Looking at those pics I would never know if the flag was ever flown since they posted the same one!!!!

  7. The point of posting it is likely to show that despite the gedolim’s insistence that Zionist is idolatry and heresy, this yeshiva’s Rav, back in the day, felt he had a good reason to do so regardless of the above, not to contradict tehh aove

  8. The Ponovezher Rov ZT”L said it should be treated the same as when he flew the Lithuanian flag in the ’20s and ’30s back in Lithuania.
