Shas Wants the Ministry of Religious Services

deriIt appears that Shas leader Aryeh Deri has set his sights on the Ministry of Religious Services. Shas has had enough of Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan, who is only a deputy minister, but was in fact serving in a ministerial capacity.

Deri will be recommending to President Reuven Rivlin that he give the mandate to form a coalition to PM Binyamin Netanyahu. Once the prime minister receives the mandate, the negotiations with party leaders and negotiating teams will begin as each party vies for various cabinet posts.

Deri already announced before elections that he wishes to return to the Interior Ministry and he will insist on that portfolio, along with the Ministry of Religious Services.

Deri explains that in the past two years, Bayit Yehudi has caused significant damage to the ministry and Israel’s religious services.

Kikar Shabbos News adds that Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef Shlita is also pushing Shas to seek to gain control of the ministry for he is tired of deal with Rabbi Ben-Dahan, with whom he rarely sees eye-to-eye.

  1. B”H. Hopefully we can finally get somebody to run the Ministry of Religious Services in accordance with the ruling of the State’s own Rabbinate, instead of just allowing anything and everything they fancy in total disregard of the Chief Rabbis.
