HaRav Yoram Abarjil reports that Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L did indeed request that Eli Yishai launch a new political party.
During a Yachad election kenos on Thursday, 7 Adar in Kiryat Shmuel, Rav Abarjil was present along with HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita and other prominent rabbonim.
Rav Mazuz explained that “the reason we asked Rav Eliyahu Yishai to continue Maran’s way was because chareidi parties were becoming too left-wing and Eli Yishai will safeguard Eretz Yisrael. Aryeh Deri is a leftist”.
Rav Mazuz explained that just like the Lubavitcher Rebbe ZT”L would speak of the need for achdus they tried to amid the realization there are anti-Torah laws that must be stopped. “We tried to unite with Agudah but they said ‘we have a red flag which is Rav Eli Yishai. Unfortunately that red flag is Yair Lapid and not Rav Eli Yishai. The tzibur loves us just because of the ‘B’Yachad’, the chareidim, Sephardim and kippot srugot”.
Rav Abarjil added “Maran identified people. He was not a psychologist but knew who to trust and who demanded his watchful eye. Prior to his death he told me Eli Yishai is the man he trusts”.
The rav continues, that this was the last conversation with the rav before leaving his home, speaking of the need for a new party to assist Eretz Yisrael. “Things tzaddikim see in their final days are indescribable…” concluding Maran Rav Ovadia stated “from down here I will not assist you for I do not have the power but I will assist from atop”.

Fyi this “Sephardic rov” is probably in the tope 3 or 5 most influential and respected rov in the Sephardic hareidi world in Israel.
Secondly I’m still waiting for ywn to report gafne gaff or moment of truth…
And this didn’t come up till now because?
I wonder if anyone besides Eli Yishai believes it.
From a political perspective,it is logical to have both a regular hareidi party (non-zionist, focused on supporting Torah and yeshivos), and a “hardal” party (pro-zionist, for persons with a hareidi-level of halachic observances but focused on supporting a nationalist foreign policy such as in preserving Israeli control over the West Bank). While the two “camps” often agree, they will disagree on some issues, and each tends to turn off supporters of the other. Having separate hareidi and hardal maximized the influence of the Torah world.
True true, oomis!
he also gave eli yishai SEMICHA, RAV ELI YISHAI.
i wonder where deri got his semicha? @ yeshiva shaagas aryeh?
Saul went to a witch to bring Shmeul haNovi back to question him. May some one can conjure up Maran Ovadia so we can get his opinion??
