Lebanese media sources on Monday morning 26 Shevat 5774 report that the Israel Air Force targeted a Syrian base in Latakia, in the northern area of the country.
Israel has been suspected of carrying out numerous aerial strikes against Syrian targets in recent months and years, but Yerushalayim has yet to accept responsibility for any of these attacks. National leaders and senior IDF commanders have however stated they will not permit the transfer of weapons of mass destruction from Syria to Hizbullah, and it is assumed that the reported aerial attack was such an offensive.
The reports state Israel attacked weapons depots in the past as well; once again these allegations were never confirmed by official Israeli sources. The US media last year reported that Israel attacked Russian SA-8 surface-to-air missiles in the same general area.
