The Lod District Court on Monday 12 Tishrei 5778 handed down a 17-year prison term on terrorist Tark Dweik, 22, of eastern Jerusalem, for the stabbing attack he perpetrated in Ra’anana two years ago.
The judge accepted the prosecution’s claims as detailed in the indictment, which he claimed that before the attack, Dweik spoke on several occasions in a manner that revealed his desire to die “martyrdom” and become a Shaheed.
Two days before the attack, Dweik began working on a construction site in the city of Ra’anana and on the day of the attack he arrived at the site with the intention of murdering Jews, as he had just decided.
To do so, Dweik took a knife, hid it in his trouser pocket and went to a bus stop at 98 Achuza Street in Ra’anana, where Adam was standing. When the terrorist noticed him and decided he was a Jew, “he decided to cause his death,” in the words of the prosecution.
Dweik pulled the knife out of his trouser pocket, held it in his hand, called “Allah Akbar” and began stabbing the man standing at the station with the knife. The victim struggled with Dweik, first standing, and then, falling to the ground, lying down.
At the same time, a number of passers-by began to gather, helping the victim escape by kicking the knife from Dweik’s hand and beating him to stop him.
As a result of the stabbing, the victim sustained puncture wounds and cuts in his face and other parts of his body.
