Rishon L’Tzion: Rabbonim Of Cities Accepted Bribes To Advance Giyur

Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita leveled harsh allegations against some rabbonim serving as state-appointed Chief Rabbis of a City, that they accepted bribes to advance giyur. The rav explained these rabbonim accepted sums in the thousands of dollars to accept non-halachically acceptable giyur.

During his address at a ‘Liba’ Conference, Rav Yosef explained that this government is better than its predecessor as the current administration is not pressing to permit every city rabbi perform giyur, which the Chief Rabbinate opposes vehemently.

He then shocked his audience adding, “You do not know but I know that there was a rabbi who received five thousand dollars for giyur. There was another rav of a city, from the center and one from the north, many years ago, who received money too. The rabbi in the south received $2,000 for conversion that was not in line with halacha.
