Baruch Dayan Emmes: HaRav Shlomo Peppenheim ZT”L, viewed as an elder of Yerushalayim, was niftar on motzei Shabbos in a senior citizen home in the capital. It is reported he cried Shema Yisrael as the paramedic ambulance pulled into the Jerusalem hospital and he was niftar.

Rav Peppenheim established the convalescent home in Telz Stone as well as the girl’s schools and an orphanage. He was also the executive director of the Eida Chareidis.

Rav Peppenheim was born in Germany 90 years ago to Rav Gavriel Tzvi Chaim Peppenheim and Chana [nee Goldsmith].

After Kristallnacht, he and a brother fled to England, where the spent a year in the home of a non-Jew in a far-off village, being moser nefesh to maintain their Yiddishkheit and not ingest forbidden foods. After the year, he and family members moved to Eretz Yisrael, learning in Yeshiva Torah V’Yirah and then in the yeshiva of Rav Yosef Tzvi Dushinsky. During this period of his life he developed a relationship and became close to the Bal Shomrei Emunim.

He was married and then opened a book shop and was to become a prominent Toldos Aharon askan, playing a role in the establishment of mosdos in the chassidus. The niftar was very close to the Chazon Ish ZT”L and the Brisker Rov ZT”L, consulting with both gedolim. He also maintained a kesher with the Admorim of Satmar, Lubavitch and Skver. He became a member of the Eida vaad about sixty years ago.

The levaya began at 1:00PM from the main Toldos Aharon Beis Medrash in Meah Shearim with kvura taking place in Har Menuchos.
