Rice Leads Blakeman By 47 Points Among Jewish Voters


voteDemocratic congressional candidate Kathleen Rice (NY-04) leads her Republican and Conservative opponent Bruce Blakeman by 18 points in the race to replace outgoing Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, according to an independent Newsday/News 12/Siena College poll released last night. Rice has a commanding 47-point lead among Jewish voters, who make up 18 percent of the district’s electorate.

Jewish voters favor Rice over Blakeman 70-23 percent, with 7 percent undecided. Jewish voters have a favorable opinion of Rice, 68-24 percent favorable vs. unfavorable, but an unfavorable opinion of Blakeman, 24-30 percent favorable vs. unfavorable.

Jewish voters also believe Rice would better represent them on the issues they rank as most important, including wars and political turmoil in the Middle East.

Jobs — Jewish voters favor Rice over Blakeman 51-26 percent

Wars and Political turmoil in the Middle East — Jewish voters favor Rice over Blakeman 47-29 percent

  1. How were “Jewish” voters defined? If they used self-identification, many of those identified themselves as Jews are persons of partial Jewish descent who are not part of the Jewish community as we would define it. Certainly in a YWN article, “Jewish” should mean halachically Jewish and Shomer Mitsvos to the exclusion of assimilated Jews and persons of Jewish ancestry who aren’t Jews according to our laws.
