Last Shabbos, the ‘Shabbus’ project ran limited public bus service in Rosh Ha’ayin on Shabbos, an initiative sponsored by City Councilman (Meretz) Omer Shechter.
A religious councilman is quoted saying “Once again another councilman is seeking headlines. Today, religious and non-religious live together and adhere to the [religious] status quo in the city and it is most unfortunate one is seeking to destroy this”.
The Sephardi Eida Chareidit released a letter of support for local chareidi leaders, calling them to do their utmost to prevent the “breach in the [Shabbos] fence”.
