YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of Hagaon HaRav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein ZATZAL, the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Kiryas Melech in Bnei Brak, and one of the leading Roshei HaYeshiva in Eretz Yisroel. He was 70-years-old.
Rav Borenstein was Niftar on Motzei Shabbos at Maaynei Hayeshua Hospital in Bnei Brak, where had been for the past three weeks.
Just last week Hagaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky had said to add the name “Refoel” as a Zechus for his Refuah. His condition stabilized shortly after adding the name, and remained stable for a few days. The past few days his condition deteriorated until his Petira on Moztei Shabbos.
He was one of the most Choshuv Talmidim of Hagaon HaRav Chaim Shmuelevitz ZATZAL, the Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir, where Rav Borenstein studied as a Bochur. He was also a close Talmid of Hagaon HaRav Nochum Partzowitz ZATZAL of the Mir.
Further details to follow.
Boruch Dayan HaEmmes….

This is too frightful to be even talking about. My son spent 8 years at his Yeshiva, and last 2 years ate by him Shovu’os nite.Wow! What a horrifying loss!!
What’s the idea of showing the niftar? That is not kovod hamais!
This great Rosh Yeshiva deserved the title Zecher Tzaddik VeKodosh Livrocho. He was Rosh Yeshiva in several places and was very close with Rav Shmuel Auerbach shlit”a. He had many devoted talmidim and followers. He had chassidic roots which he blended in his shmuessen. He had a gevaldige warmth in tefillah and was a big oived Hashem.
Justasec: really? They showed the same type of picture from the levayos of Rav Shach and R’ N. T. Finkel in the Yated and the Hamodia.
So let me understand this. If I go to the levaya in person and see the niftar it is “kavod hameis” but if I see a picture of it then it is not. Is this your point “justasec”?
Normally, we are accustomed to seeing the body of the niftar on some platform or support….I suspect the visuals of seeing the niftar lying on the floor of the beis medrash appears to some to be disrespectful and not consistent with their view of kovod hames….not much kovod to just place the body on the floor
Moderators Note: It IS Kavod. That is the Halacha. It’s called hashkava.
