Former Chief Rabbi Israel Meir Lau said Thursday that running for President “is not on my daily agenda.” Rabbi Lau, is respected and liked by a large number of secular Israelis, often has been mentioned as a candidate to be President of Israel. Earlier this week, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert suggested that Elie Wiesel, who does not live in Israel, take over the post.
