[PHOTO LINK BELOW] Brooklyn – Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg joined New York City Council candidate and education advocate, David G. Greenfield in Brooklyn on Thursday evening to meet voters at Congregation Anshe Sfard in Boro Park. With a capacity crowd of Greenfield supporters on hand, and an overflow crowd that spilled out into the street, the Mayor and Greenfield worked their way through the throngs of supporters as they entered the building to thunderous applause. Hundreds of supporters came out to see Mayor Bloomberg discuss his support of Greenfield, interrupting the speeches at times with applause and chants of Greenfield’s name.
“I’ve always been impressed with David’s intelligence, his tenacity, and his ability to get results,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “One of the best examples is the work David did with our administration to make federal school funds more flexible, so that our yeshivas could really benefit from this important resource. David represents the new wave of leadership that Brooklyn needs. He’s already accomplished so much as a community leader. As a councilman, he’ll be able to do even more.”
Greenfield discussed his successful education advocacy efforts at TEACH NYS, where he worked together with a coalition of Jewish, Catholic and Independent school communities to secure a $330 tax credit per student for parents of school age children, and he spoke about his partnership with the Mayor, which led to free tutoring for thousands of yeshiva students by accessing federal Title I funds. In addition, Greenfield announced that he has been working with Mayor’s office to explore the possible implementation of an alternative transportation plan that would give free door-to-door transportation for yeshiva students.
“The reason we have been successful in the past, and the reason why Mayor Bloomberg has been successful, is that we work together with the community,” said Greenfield. “Mayor Bloomberg is an innovative and honest leader, and, like me, he works for the betterment of the community, not the special interests.”
Mayor Bloomberg, recently re-elected by city voters, received approximately 75% of the general election vote in the 44th Council District. Greenfield’s relationship with Mayor Bloomberg will allow him to be an effective advocate on day one, and enable him to make sure that the community’s needs are met.
The Mayor and Greenfield were also joined by Councilman Domenic M. Recchia, Jr., Chair of the Finance Committee and a strong supporter of Greenfield’s candidacy for City Council.

as i see it , david greenfield wants the average person be able to make there own decisions with money that goes back in to the community . were as joe lazar wants the money to be given the same old way as before through the institutions that are controlled by a few people who are the ones to make the decisions and do not want any input from the plain people.
Because of his personality and experience, my gut feeling is that Greenfield can do more for the Heimishe Oilom than the other candidates; notwithstanding that others have posed with many Rabbonim (which does not say that they indorse them).
Nevertheless, the Mayor’s endorsement of Greenfield, however distasteful for many, will surely enable Greenfield do more for our community than anyone else.
Besides, it’s only about 10 months until the next election. If we don’t see the desired results, we can vote for someone else at that time, or re-elect the incumbant.
I admit, it’s a tough call, but my vote is with Greenfield.
I will not vote for either one. I will vote for Jonathan Judge.
I really believed in you David, a young energetic up and coming community representative, is just what we need right now, & I was really hoping you will make it,
But by clinging to that ‘power & money-mad Bloomberg’ you surely lost my vote!
Yes, I hate everything about that man, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you why,
You did run a very good Campaign up until that very damaging “bear hug” moment
I’m sure you did think long & hard before you accepted this public endorsement of the most hated person in our Boro-park Flatbush communities, but you didn’t resist, and for that you will pay dearly,
Have a good Shabbes David, I wish you all the best in whatever else you will do, you’re a good man & deserve good Mazel,
Menachem in Boro-Park
That is why I will vote For Judge because I feel the other two will only listen just to the so called leaders who really don’t lead anybody and have no influence on anybody just their pockets.
Menachem:
Think again. Bloomberg OWNS this city. Who better to be aligned with than our powerful dictator of a Mayor. With Bloomberg on his side Greenfield can wield a lot of power and do lots of good. If Lazar wins I’m sure nothing will be accomplished as he doesn’t have the right people in high places on his side. Voting Lazar is a WASTE OF TIME!
Menachem, I have a very similar opinion as you. Whoever knows me, knows that I’ve been an outspoken critic of the mayor ever since. He doesn’t understand our needs and is far too arrogant to listen. But I asked myself these questions:
Am I electing a mayor or a representative that will listen to our needs and be here for us at all times?
Do I really want a young ambitious councilman who is ready for the job, or someone that has already retired and will just have another title?
Do I really care if my official got the endorsement of someone I don’t like rather than getting someone that will be a puppet of someone elected close to three decades ago and did nothing special for our community?
Do I want a councilman who has accomplishments on pen & paper or someone who just touts forty years experience in the goverment, and have you ever been to a government office?
How will I feel pulling the lever for someone who prevailed through threatening Mosdos, taking away Kimcha Dpischa from the needy and ripping off his opponents signs?
Do I want someone that understands my needs, because he gets tickets like me, pays expensive rent and sky-high tuition prices like I do, or someone that doesn’t feed the meter because he’s a VIP, and made enough of my tax to buy himself a house?
And last, is an endorsement from Bloomberg worse than backing from Hikind and Co.?
I decided the obvious. I decided I want someone that knows with whom he has to connect with to receive benefits for our community, and from whom to keep a distance as he he’s only here to play old fashioned politics. I want a young fellow who’s bright enough to know how to get our needs. I want someone who will work on our behalf because he wants a future in politics. I want someone who will make a difference in my personal life and not just give out grants to those they get the most attention and Kavod from. I want someone who has already delivered and will continue to do so. I want someone that has innovative ideas on every issue and crisis that comes up. I want someone that had positive things to campaign on and didn’t have to go negative. I want someone who doesn’t think we’re dummies and he can do whatever he wants with us and use our naivete to get our vote.
I will IY”H cast my ballot on tuesday, March 23 for David Greenfield, and I ask you to join me.
Greenfeld. Did you ask your friend Bloomberg if a hundred thousand orthodox jews including wonderful children that need to be outdoors at the shore in the sweltering summer can have two blocks of shoreline dedicated to modest separate swimming? who are you representing anyway? Because of this young people are not getting exercise. Sooner or later a gentile politician will get this done. But isn’t that why you are asking the Jews to vote for you? There are only two major Jewish issues. Tuition and this. I can not accept that you are ignoring this issue. Frum Jews have a tzeniut requirement and.you can’t tell these people tough luck the ocean is off limits while we have miles of coastline. Furthermore even the gentiles practced modesy 100 years ago on these very beaches. It is Constitutionally legal to get this done. They have separate bathrooms for men and women and its also Constitutional.
Looking at the pictures, all I see are young kids and buchorim with a few adults. If this is the kind of turnout the mayor can gather, I’d say his chances aren’t that great.
The voter turnout will be minimal. For the mayor’s election the 44th district represented approx 2800 votes. For this special election, I estimate less than 1000 people will show. This shows how important every vote is, as it will come down to a handful of votes to make the difference.
The next city council election is 2013, not 10 months.
I personaly colculated both candidates & made a desition to vote for Greenfield.
1)here you have two guys. One is young energetic & active, on the other side you have an old retired & non history candidate.
2) I assume the reason our local polotitions are backing Lazar, they simply feel harmed of Greenfield due to his historical anergetic activities. On the other hand they found a sheep that will just follow them…
3) above all, the fact he’s so beloved by the mayor means, that he has a bigger chance to get things done for our community.
My dear friend. think through my article & decide what’s best for our community…
we know the best add for a candidate is friend to friend, mouth to ear.
so please, I’m asking you & you’d ask your friends.
basically you have here two candidates, YOUNG & ACTIVE vs OLD & RETIRED!
please everybody, make the right desision & don’t cry over spilled milk!…
Going down the streets of BP, looking on the dirty way Lazar went with his ‘fight’ just like a baby! Throwing out papers against Greenfield, saying he goes to church every sunday, with a big tzeilim on it?! (Besides the point it’s ‘usser min hatoire’) That means basically that he doesn’t have with what to fight with, so he has to go the Dirty way! Greenfield, a young man that did so much. Lazar, a old guy and noone heard his name yet. Lazar is not more than one big LOOOOOOSER!!!!! VOTE FOR GREENFIELD THIS TUESDAY!!!!
FeterMoishe:
Good point.
It bothers me that people are so ready to vote for a guy like Lazar who supposedly has been in politics for 35, 40 years yet NOONE heard of him. The guy is retired. He doesn’t have the strength or the drive to succeed and make a name for himself like Greenfield does. Greenfield is going places. Lazar is just looking for a nice retirement gig.
I urge you all to use your HEADS when deciding who to vote for. Do not be swayed by emotion, or because Hikind backs Lazar or any other shtussim. Do what makes sense. Vote for the man who will really do something for our community. Vote Greenfield!
Hi I just want to remind everyone of the oldest president ever elected (if we are making age an issue here) it was Ronald Reagan. The third to the youngest was Barak Hussain Obama. Just pointing this out for all who feel that youth is a quality in polotics.
Go Vote Lazar.
