Israel May Recall Swedish Ambassador

sweden.pngA political row is underway following harsh remarks released by Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, who stated he agrees with the findings of the Goldstone Commission referring to allegations of war crimes against Israel pertaining to Operation Cast Lead. FM Bildt was also critical of Israel for not cooperating with the commission.

Speaking with members of the press in Stockholm this week, the senior Swedish official had words of praise for Justice Richard Goldstone, who headed the commission, attesting to his credibility and integrity.

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon stated it is most unfortunate, adding that most EU nations are not standing behind Goldstone’s report, telling the media that as a result of the foreign minister’s statements, Israel may have to reexamine her relationship with Sweden. Ayalon added that while Sweden currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the EU, the foreign minister’s statements do not necessarily represent the position of the EU. He stated a decision to possibly recall the Israeli ambassador to Sweden would be discussed.

  1. Recalling the Ambassador will just escalate the issue. Better to ignore it. The Swedish are irrelevant in the big picture of world govts.

  2. The Nazis enjoyed continous shipments of iron ore vital to their war efforts from Sweden thruout WWII. Sweden also allowed Nazi troops safe passage thru Sweden from Norway to Finland prior to and in preparation of Operation Barbarossa. What other aid which I’m sure is volumious, Sweden gave to the Nazis is not knnown nor will it probably ever be revealed.

    A goy,
