FBI, NYPD Raid Queens Apartment In Terrorism Investigation

fbi.jpgResidents in Queens were witness to an FBI raid Monday morning, as agents flooded the area looking for explosives. Neighbors stood by as a large group of FBI agents and NYPD detectives converged on an apartment building as point of a joint terrorist task force.

The NYPD says one of the residences is located on 147th Street between Parsons and 41st Avenue in Flushing, Queens.

According to WCBSTV, the federal search warrant spelled out all manner of possible bomb-making components, including powders, gels, TNT, and fuses.

The building’s superintendent, Ramiz Berisha, told CBS reporters that those who were questioned are Pakistani.

The FBI says several criminal search warrants were issued but no arrests have been made at this time.

According to the AP, officials are said to be preparing to brief Congress about the investigation.

New York senator Charles Schumer, who was briefed by FBI officials, said he couldn’t discuss much of the case because many of the details were still classified.

“There was nothing imminent, and they are very good now at tracking potentially dangerous actions and this was preventive,” Schumer said. He added that the law enforcement action was unrelated to President Barack Obama’s visit today to New York.
