Shabbos Protest to Continue This Week

July 24, 2009

gavad1.jpgIn Meah Shearim, the Eida Chareidis announces the shabbos protest opposing the city’s operating of the Karta parking lot will take place as it has in past weeks, at 5:30PM.

Gavaad HaRav Yitzchak Tuvia Weiss Shlita will take part along with other Rabbonim Shlita, decrying the chilul shabbos on a municipal level.

The Eida has announced the protest is for adults only, seeking to distance the young and the hooligans who in the past have been responsible for violence.

  1. So I guess there WERE hooligans and violence, and it wasn’t a media fabrication. Negative middos are very dangerous to use, and the average person has a kilkul when using them.

  2. After there is little garbage left to burn, NOW you distance yourselves from the vandals? The “youths” are responsible for the damage, or those who called for the protests time and again, knew what was going on, denied it, refused to condemn it, and never called the dogs off? What makes one think that those who are merely looking for action will listen “this time”?

    Too little, too late.

  3. I can’t understand why they must be mechalel shabos in yerushalayim ? Why cant they go to there own town and leave this city holy ?
We say in birchas hamozon “uvnay yerushalayim ir hakodesh bimhayru beyumaynu”
They remove the “kedushe” holines from this city.

  4. Jothar, You’re right. But let’s look at it this way: the hooligans were youths, not adults. That speaks a little better for the community there. And at least now the adults are going to try harder to prevent the youths from such behavior. Admittedly, it’s a little late for that, but at least they will be doing it. In some cultures, even that would be improbable.

  5. Hopefully adults are more civilized than the youth (although they too are post bar mitzvah, and ought to have some middos…).
