Capital Gain For NYC Subway Hero

nyc subway.jpgThe Brooklyn Muslim who defended a group of Jewish subway riders after they were attacked on Chanukah (reported HERE on YWN) will get an all-American reward next week – a seat at the State of the Union Address.

Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-NY) told The NY Post that his one extra ticket to President Bush’s speech on Monday was all he could think of to recognize Hassan Askari’s selflessness.

Police came aboard the Q train in Brooklyn and arrested 10 people.

Askari, who ended up with a busted lip and two black eyes for his trouble, has since enjoyed wide acclaim for helping his fellow subway riders.

He has already been honored by the ADL, and was handed a check for $5,000 by Attorney Benjamin Brafman, who was touched by Askari’s subway heroics.

Askari was also honored at a benefit dinner at the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding in Midtown, and he and his family were offered free Nets tickets for any game they’d like to attend.
